One hundred years from now, we have passed the tipping point for climate change and the earth has settled into a new, chaotic equilibrium. Erratic, severe weather patterns and mass extinction have given way to widespread famine and war. The humans that remain struggle to survive. Michael, an elderly man haunted by the loss of his wife, is rescued on a hunting trip gone wrong by Réa, a resourceful young woman born into this world, and who knows no other. Depending on each other for survival, they both travel south, each hoping to change the world in their own way. Not only will they have to risk hurricanes and collapsing cities, but also the dangers that come from dealing with humans forced by desperation. When Michael reveals the devastating method by which he will change the world, Réa will have to decide whether she will help him return the world to what it once was, or betray him to forge a brand new world instead.
